IBM software to boost mobile web for business
A new software system has been put together that could improve the services available on mobile phones.
IBM has announced that it has developed a new application that will enable mobile devices to more closely mimic features usually found on desktop PCs.
Aimed primarily at business users with mobile phones, the Mobility@Work software claims to help employers increase productivity by as much as 30 per cent by providing a range of instant data services.
One such example of how this works would be if real-time company sales and inventory figures were required, the new system would collate and deliver the figures, displaying them in a "simple, single-screen graphic".
Drew Clark, director of strategy for IBM Venture Capital Group, said the system would take advantage of the growth of the mobile web for both business and personal use.
"Utilising software assets from IBM Research combined with our service's offerings provides unique opportunities to help companies quickly adapt to the mobile environment," he said.
IBM was incorporated in New York in 1911 as the Computing Tabulating Recording Company, but claims to date back to have roots dating back to "the close of the 19th century".
